We severely condemn the ‘physical assault’ on Nisha Singh, MCG Counsellor, Ward 30, during the demolition of unauthorised occupation in Sector 47 as reported in the media yesterday. Nisha Singh has been beaten brutally by Gurgaon police, for which she had to be hospitalized and is currently in jail. This is uncalled for in any civilized society.

Nisha Singh is an elected representative, and represents the citizens of her constituency. Nisha Singh has been an important bridge between Gurgaon administration and civil society groups as an elected representative, and has worked tirelessly with residents and administration together for making Gurgaon a better place to live in.

The physical assault on an “unarmed” person (in this case a lady), followed by arrest, especially when there is no reported evidence of the assaulted person being a threat, is against a citizen’s constitutional right to life and liberty with dignity.

The charges under IPC subsequently pressed against her by the Police are unbelievable.

Please sign this petition to appeal to the Gurgaon administration to re-consider the actions taken by the Gurgaon Police and initiate suitable steps in a manner that demonstrate civility and respect for law deserving of a citizen – moreover an elected representative – so that the trust deficit created between Gurgaon citizens and administration is restored.
