Two years ago today, our petition which honours the memory of my brother Ian Walker, and Leigh's brother Trevor Foster, was tabled in Victorian Parliament. Last year's Australian Child Maltreatment Study has underscored the urgency of what our petition seeks, as did the development of national minimum service standards produced by the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse last year. A design process we participated in.
We are asking that the Victorian Government implement Recommendation 9.1 of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, in full. Why?
The Royal Commission found the average length of time between being abused as a child, and disclosure, is 25 years.
We also know that too often disclosure does not lead to support, or healing or justice.
We also know that the prevalence of mental health disorders is double for Australian adults who have experienced child maltreatment, than for those who haven't.
We know that early intervention matters for the healing of any form of human suffering.
We know, as does too many other family members and friends of survivors, that early, supportive and appropriate responses to survivors' disclosure of child sexual abuse saves lives.
So, our Petition continues to relentlessly knock on the doors of government.
We are also knocking on Federal Government doors, regarding Recommendation 9.1., given its full implementation by State and Territory governments would meet the new national minimum standards. In addition to creating numerous other social, wellbeing and economic benefits nationally.
Always loved, always missed, never forgotten. Ian D and Trevor.

Our governments have failed to act on numerous recommendations that would improve the lives of survivors of child sexual abuse, and their families and communities.
Thank you for supporting us in changing that.
