Undiagnosed, and untreated complex post traumatic stress caused by childhood sexual abuse creates multiple risks for survivors, their families and communities. Left undiagnosed and untreated, the risks to survivors include significant psychological, physical, and social wellbeing risks including risking adverse brain development of the child, with negative consequences for the adult survivor, due to living in a constantly hyper-vigilant state. Living with untreated complex post traumatic stress not only puts individuals at an increased risk for several life-threatening conditions, it makes it more challenging for those individuals to control their thoughts, actions, and behavior. Making access to diagnosis and treatment for complex post traumatic stress a public health imperative, not only for survivors, but for their families and communities.
Not all wounds are visible, and tragically the significant barriers to disclosure of childhood sexual abuse, reduce the opportunities for diagnosis and treatment of complex post traumatic stress. Costing the lives of survivors, and increasing the pain and suffering for survivors, their families and communities.
On June 27 we stand with everyone living with post traumatic stress, and we will continue to campaign for increased opportunities for survivors and their families, to benefit from the diagnosis and treatment of complex post traumatic stress.
We are 12,812 Petitioners strong, and we are LOUD and growing LOUDER!
Thank you for standing with us.
