The magic number (tipping point) to create social change in any group of humans (families, communities, teams, groups, forums, organisations, governments, society) is 25% not a majority. Next week we are meeting with a Victorian member of parliament about sponsoring our petition, which includes the possibility of it being tabled in Victorian parliament. This is a big deal, that your voice of one of our over 12,300 petitioners, is making a possibility.
So every time we ask why Victorian survivors of institutional child sexual abuse shouldn't have the same level of accessibility to services and supports that those living in NSW have, we are moving closer to a tipping point.
Because change starts when people talk about the trauma of institutional childhood sexual abuse, create awareness and education about it, and provide an evidenced based vision of how to better respond to it, that includes what is already working elsewhere. Not getting bogged down in the here and now of what's not working, which doesn't move us closer to what really makes a difference.
And our vision includes piloting what is already working elsewhere in Australia, and in the world, in a couple of Victorian communities devastated by historic, systemic institutional child sexual abuse. The Ballarat community, and the Bayside community of Melbourne.
And continuing to ask, why wouldn't we invest in the lives of so many vulnerable Victorians, given the significant benefits to them, their families, their communities and Victorian society as a whole?
As we end every update, we ask, can you please keep sharing our petition, as it is working! Thank you.
