(Please see update added)This past year, the VHSL decided to combine Class 1A and Class 2A for girls soccer due to a lesser amount of girls soccer teams in 1A. They eliminated district tournaments for 1A, we think, because 2A doesn’t have district tournaments. Which left our 1A girls going 2-3 weeks waiting on 2A to finish their season without playing a game. 
Combining these two state divisions also left our “already struggling to find enough players” 1A teams with no really good chance for a state title and hence a lot of girls in frustration and defeated feelings. 
In this first year for our girls, of having the two classes combined, the 4 regions’ semifinals  (a total of 16 teams to make it that far) 13 teams were Class 2A and only 3 were Class 1A. Out of the 8 teams to make it to the regional finals, only 1 Class 1A team made it (the reigning 1A State champs) and the other 7 teams are 2A. 
These 2A schools have so many girls for soccer because of their high total of students, they have to cut girls from their team and sometimes still have enough for a jv team also, while the 1A schools barely have enough for one varsity girls’ team. 
Please sign this petition to separate Class 1A and 2A for girls soccer from here on out.
