You have to take action against the management of Sherwood College. Their negligence and irresponsible behavior has led to a child's death.
The Issue
This is about life of a person. No school management should be negligent towards a student's health and life. We have to stop medical negligence which has led to my brother- Shaan Prajapati's death.
A mother, a single parent from Kathmandu, lost her only child, her 14 year old son, at the hands of a callous School Principal and a negligent bunch of staff at Sherwood College.
Some of the facts gathered from the mother' statement to the Police.
1. The first call to her at Kathmandu came at 10 am on Nov 13 and that too by her son's friend at School, that her son was very ill.
2. Her immediate call to the Principal went unanswered / unreplied, so she immediately sent an email to him to ask how her son was doing.
3. At 3 pm she got a call from a Housemaster, Mr.Ravi Kumar, informing her that her son was critically ill and admitted to Bombay Hospital in Haldwani.
4. They gave her the infirmary sister's no. who told her that her son was ill since Nov 11 and he had complained of not being able to sleep for 2 nights in a row.
5. The School then asked her to speak to a Dr. but she asked her own physician in Kathmandu to speak to him and it turned out the Dr was an orthopaedic and not a physician. Then they gave her the no. of a physician Dr. Paramjit Rao.
6. At 8 pm the Principal called to say he planned to shift the child to a Delhi hospital. The mother was categorical that her permission was subject to a well equipped ambulance and an accompanying Dr travelling with her son. They even permitted using an air-taxi service at their expense but were told none were available. When the family contacted one themselves, the Principal called back to say this air taxi person had also refused.
7. At 1 am the Principal called to say that her son was being trfd to Delhi in an ambulance and gave the no. of a Dr. Vijendra. Till 3;30 Vijendra did not answer the parent's calls to confirm the condition of the child.
8. Vijendra could not speak in English and when they asked him if he was a Dr. he said he was a technician. When they asked to speak to another attendee he said he didn't know anything. At 4:48 am Vijendra told the mother that her son had had a heart attack and there was a doctor attending to him. But there was no one in the van except an infirmary assistant (Suresh) and Vijendra. Vijendra would keep asking them if they were calling from School or Kathmandu before imparting any information. He kept changing his statements and most of the time his phone was either out of reach or switched off. It took them 7 hours to travel from Haldwani to Noida.
9. The Principal allegedly kept lying that he was following the van with a team of doctors who kept checking the child every 15 mins. When he was told that Vijendra is not a Doctor the Principal said he would call back. Later he called to say Vijendra was not a DR. but was well trained which was also hard to believe. She was also told that the child would be taken to Max Hospital in Noida.
10. Later on dialling Vijendra's number a driver answered and said Vijendra was not available.
11. The child was finally taken to Apollo Clinic in Noida, where he was declared brought dead. At 9:30 am the mother was informed that the child had passed away.
12. A post mortem was conducted by Noida Sector 20 Police and the cause of death has been reduced to severe septicaemia.
These are facts as gathered from the mother's statement to the Police. After a brief altercation with the Principal at Kailash Hospital, the Principal told the family he would not be coming back to the hospital and he remained unavailable thereafter. The family spent the entire day at the Police Station trying to get a complaint and an FIR lodged which happened with much difficulty as the Police were initially challenging the jurisdiction.
The further arrangements were left to the family from Kathmandu, completely unfamiliar with Delhi / Noida, who had to arrange for the body to be embalmed at AIIMS and then to be taken by flight to Kathmandu.
