Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro bought out by puppy store and puppy mill lobby
The Issue
Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro has been heavily influenced by the puppy store and puppy mill lobby to kill Assembly Bill 487. This critical bill aims to ban the sale of cruelly bred puppy mill puppies across Nevada, focusing on the humane treatment of animals and prioritizing ethical adoption practices.
Assembly Bill 487 is very personal to me because it seeks to prevent pet stores from selling, offering to sell, or transferring ownership of dogs and cats, except through shelters and rescue organizations. This would help curb the puppy mill industry, known for its inhumane treatment of animals, and promote adopting pets that desperately need homes.
Several Nevada communities, including Clark County, North Las Vegas, Reno, and Mesquite, have already taken a stand by banning the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores. These local successes provide a powerful model for statewide reform, demonstrating it is not only possible but essential to extend this protection to all pets in Nevada.
If passed, Assembly Bill 487 will expand these life-saving restrictions to pet stores all across Nevada, saving countless animals from suffering in mills and solidifying Nevada’s commitment to combatting animal cruelty.
I urge you to call Nicole Cannizzaro's office at 775-684-1475 or email her at Nicole.Cannizzaro@sen.state.nv.us to demand that she revive Assembly Bill 487. Remind her that her actions will influence not only animal welfare but also her political future, especially as she plans to run for Attorney General. Let her know that her failure to act compassionately may cost her your vote.
Join me in standing up against the manipulation of our laws by powerful, profit-driven lobbies. Sign this petition to demand action against the sale of puppy mill puppies in Nevada. Together, let's secure a healthier, more humane future for all of Nevada's pets.
