Help millions who are suffering: Provide U.S. Humanitarian Aid for Refugees in the Central African Republic
The Issue
Dear Senator/Representative,
The ongoing conflicts in the Central African Republic have left thousands dead and caused more than a million people to flee their homes in search of safety. Many have taken up refuge in the neighboring countries of the Central African Republic, such as Chad and Cameroon. There is currently no end in sight for the violence between rebel groups, Anti-Balaka (affiliated with Christianity) and Seleka (affiliated with Islam). The progression of this situation suggests that a potential genocide could be forming against the Muslim minority. Civilians who are still struggling to get out of the Central African Republic need help. In addition, the hundreds of thousands of refugees located in Chad and Cameroon are in dire need of food, medical supplies and other life-saving assistance.
I write to convey support for U.S. humanitarian assistance that is needed to respond to this issue as well as other humanitarian crises around the world. The previous resolution approved and enforced by the United Nations has not been effective in providing lasting stability to this war-torn nation.
The United States is a powerful and politically influential country that has both the resources and capability to intervene in this crisis. People are continuing to suffer in the Central African Republic and I believe this is something the United States should pay attention to. I am writing this to make a clear statement that I am informed on this issue and I want the United States government to prioritize it.
Humanitarian relief is a necessity in the Central African Republic; millions have been displaced and more people are dying everyday.
