Petition Summary and Background

There has been a total lack of transparency by the Village of Flossmoor, in particular Mayor Michelle Nelson, as it relates to the firing of Flossmoor Chief Jerel Jones.  

The statement released on March 7, 2024 by Mayor Nelson to the Flossmoor Community lacked any meaningful, substantial or consequential information that justifies the termination of Chief Jones. 

The mayor’s statement included the following:

“It has been disappointing, however, that public conversation has been devoid of facts. So, because this matter is tearing at our community, I need to take this opportunity to provide residences with some context, based on valid, credible information, not rumor.”

“What I can tell you is there have been serious operational and administrative lapses under his watch. In totality, I believe these lapses mean that our residents are not receiving the level of public safety services they expect and deserve.”

Mayor Nelson has yet to release the “facts” as it relates to Chief Jones’ termination. 

Action petitioned for

We, the undersigned, concerned and confused residents of Flossmoor strongly urge Mayor Michelle Nelson to release the facts, including; valid, specific and evidence-based information regarding the “serious operational and administrative lapses” that have negatively impacted our level of safety and are grounds for the termination of Police Chief Jerel Jones.
