The Issue

The suffering of animals, particularly those held in zoos and marine parks like SeaWorld, brings great sorrow to me.

In these establishments, wild animals are often kept in unnatural and distressing conditions, deprived of their basic needs and freedoms. According to data from Born Free USA, an animal advocacy group, in zoos, animals suffer from both physical and psychological problems due to limited space, inappropriate environmental conditions, and social stress. Additionally, "The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), touted as the international 'seal of approval' for zoos and aquariums, oversees an estimated 10% of the 10,000-odd zoos worldwide."

Marine parks like SeaWorld also have a poor record when it comes to animal welfare. In the wild, orcas can live up to 90 years, but in captivity, most whales and dolphins do not live beyond their 20s, according to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation. While they claim to contribute to conservation and animal welfare, the evidence suggests otherwise.

It is time to rethink how we interact with and treat animals, moving away from exploitation and imprisonment, and towards conservation and co-habitation. Let's seek legislation that will ban all zoos and marine parks nationally, setting a precedent for a new age of animal rights and conservation. Lend your voice to this cause by signing this petition. Free the innocent animals. Provide them a fair habitat!
