This petition is born out of a personal story, a story of friendship and loss. Tiffany McCoy was more than just my friend; she was an integral part of our community in Killeen, TX. She was a beloved barber, sister, auntie, cousin - but most importantly, she was like a mother to everyone's children. Her radiant personality shone through her work with the homeless community and her protective nature made her loved by all.

I met Tiffany in 2016 during cosmetology class and from that moment on, our friendship never ceased. Despite the battles she faced personally, she always wore a smile on her face and filled everyone’s heart with joy and love.

Tragically, we lost Tiffany in circumstances that call into question the practices of our local police force. This has sparked an urgent need to address police funding within our city.

Defunding the police does not mean eliminating all law enforcement; rather it signifies reallocating or redirecting funding away from the police department to other government agencies funded by the local municipality (source: Center for American Progress). It's about investing more into mental health services, housing initiatives - areas where many believe change is long overdue.

We are calling upon Temple City Council to reconsider their budget allocations as they pertain to law enforcement. We demand justice for Tiffany McCoy while advocating for systemic changes that will prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
