Seek Justice for Rosco, Shot by his Drunk Owner who has not yet Been Charged

The Issue

We all understand the bond companionship animals have to their owners. This is a story of Rosco an amazing best friend who probably loved his owner, even though his owner didn’t love him.

On March 20th Rosco was tragically shot in Santa Rosa County, FL by Donald Shoen, his drunk Owner.  He was left to walk around for over TWO HOURS until kind citizens found him standing by the road crying, bleeding with a bullet in his head.

Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter arrived at the scene and decided Donald Shoen did nothing wrong because the investigating animal control officer was new and did not know how to charge this man.  The drunk owner walked away without charges.

Dogs are not just pets; they are our companions, members of our family, which we have, over years, raised to be by our side. It is our duty and obligation to protect and care for them.

The fact that Rosco’s owner has not been held accountable for such a gross misdeed speaks volumes about the inadequacy of our current animal welfare laws.

It is pertinent to note that according to a study from Animal Cruelty, about 70.1% of animal abuse involves dogs. And in many jurisdictions, including Florida, animal cruelty laws could entail felony charges (Animal Legal Defense Fund).

Our goal is not only to seek justice for Rosco but to ensure that such an act does not go unpunished anymore. This is a call for authorities in Santa Rosa County to revisit the case and enforce strict consequences for offenders, setting a much-needed precedent. We must show that we value our companions and their well-being, and we are prepared to fight for their rights.

Rosco lost his life that day!  Please sign and share and help him find justice for this unspeakable tragedy.
