The Issue

I'm a single mother who has been struggling since my separation. Despite trying to receive disability benefits and assistance through low-income housing programs and vouchers, I have faced countless obstacles. Applications are often closed or turn out to be scams, leaving families like mine without the aid we desperately need. After four years of battling for my disability, I'm told I must start over. This is not an isolated issue; countless families face similar challenges in seeking essential support.

In 2021, the city of Bloomington-Normal announced the allocation of $21 million to be directed towards mental health services and housing support. This funding was meant to provide a lifeline for individuals and families in crisis. Yet, here we are, still struggling without access to these promised resources. The allocation was supposed to enhance community well-being, reduce homelessness, and improve access to vital mental health services.

Lord knows how many families are on the brink, balancing precariously without the necessary assistance. The disbursement and utilization of these funds remain unclear. Where is the $21 million intended for mental health and housing enhancement?

To ensure that families like mine can access the support earmarked for them, we urge local officials to provide transparency and accountability regarding the use of these funds. An immediate audit and public disclosure should be conducted to illustrate how these monies are being utilized. Make this oversight process visible and participatory to ensure the funds are distributed effectively and reach those in dire need.

Join us in pressuring our elected officials to release a detailed report. This is not just about accountability but about ensuring that allocated resources make a tangible impact on the community.

Please sign this petition to demand the rightful allocation and utilization of these funds so that they can provide meaningful support to Bloomington-Normal's most vulnerable residents. Your signature can help bring about the change needed to ensure accountability and effective resource distribution. Stand with us to seek justice and support for those who need it most.
