A recent article titled “Rogue Communication Devices Found in Chinese Inverters?” raised serious concerns about the potential cybersecurity threats embedded in components used by renewable energy facilities operating in Texas. This is not just a theoretical risk—it’s a direct threat to the integrity and security of our electric grid.
In light of this information, please contact the members of the House Calendars Committee and encourage them to support and schedule key bills that directly address these vulnerabilities. These bills are not partisan—they are practical, protective, and essential to ensuring our grid's long-term reliability and safety.
✅ SB 75 (Sen. Bob Hall): This bill commissions an assessment of threats to the grid, including the exact kinds of risks raised in the article. It lays the groundwork for proactive defense.
✅ SB 715 (Sen. Kevin Sparks): While it doesn’t address cybersecurity directly, it begins holding renewable energy producers accountable for the costs they impose on our grid. If companies are buying cut-rate, insecure technology, like Chinese inverters with potential spyware, they must bear the cost of fixing it or be excluded from selling into ERCOT.
🗣 We ask you to call and email the Calendars Committee members and urge them to support bringing these bills to the House floor for a vote. Be respectful, share your concern as a Texan, and remind them: these are common-sense, grid-security bills that protect all Texans.
