SECURITY COMPANY USING RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY FOR COMMERCIAL FIRE ARMS TRAINING
The Issue
In May 2022, the owner of a security company bought roughly 8 acres zoned for residential at 4280 S. Mt. Juliet Rd. Ever since, neighbors and surrounding communities have been experiencing a very high volume of active shooting, including automatic rifles- at all hours of the day, sometimes as early as 6am and well after dark. It has been discovered that it appears that he may be using the residential property to train his security staff to shoot instead of taking his staff to public shooting range.
The newest problem? a landscaping company has been added to the land and a great deal of Solaren vehicles and equipment have been placed on the property. In the last two months, a 14-lane gun range has been built out of railroad ties, a rifle range has been formed out of dirt, and electrical has been run to the facility in the middle of our otherwise quiet neighborhood. On March 14th, the owner met with zoning and planning and informed them of his intention to apply to re-zone that land from R-1 to A-1, agriculture-1, with intent for a recreational gun range. If the land is re-zoned, there may be no chance of stopping the on-going shooting that could legally go on 24/7. The re-zoning meetings will be in April.
