You're one of almost 11,900 people who have signed our ePetition seeking to secure a useful future for the 1.4-mile long disused railway tunnel under Queensbury, West Yorkshire.
We want to see this outstanding Victorian asset brought back into public service as part of a Bradford-Halifax Greenway. Both Bradford and Calderdale councils formally support the proposal. It would establish the structure as a landmark addition to the country's cycle network, creating a strategic link between two districts separated by a substantial topographical barrier.
However Highways England, who manage the tunnel for the Department for Transport, have submitted a planning application to put the structure permanently beyond use. Due to a series of failures, the scheme is now likely to cost around £6 million, with 88% of the tunnel left to collapse beneath Queensbury. The destruction of this fabulous engineering feat represents an entirely wasteful use of taxpayers' money.
Please OBJECT to Highways England's planning application, joining 3,800+ people who have already made their views known. You can do so via Bradford Council's planning portal, you don't have to register and it needn't take more than a couple of minutes.

We've produced a short video about the Bradford-Halifax Greenway, the benefits it would deliver as an active travel route and the tunnel's role as a vital connector.
We really hope you will lend us your support again.
Thanks, on behalf of the Queensbury Tunnel Society
