To the Administration of Elizabeth City State University,

We, the undersigned students, alumni, and community members, respectfully submit this petition to advocate for an inclusive, well-supported, and thoughtfully managed celebration of Viking Fest one of the university’s most valued traditions.

Viking Fest represents a time of unity, pride, and connection for the entire ECSU community. It allows students to fully experience campus life while welcoming alumni and community members back to fellowship and celebrate the university’s legacy.

As this tradition continues to grow, we believe there is an opportunity to further enhance the overall experience in ways that allow all attendees to feel comfortable, supported, and able to fully enjoy the celebration. A well-planned environment, including an appropriate level of security presence, helps ensure that students and guests can focus on celebrating safely and responsibly.

In that spirit, we respectfully encourage the administration, including Chancellor Keith Hargrove, to consider the following:

• Allowing this moment supports tradition, celebrates achievement, and fosters unity among students, alumni, and the ECSU community. Greek life is an essential part of the Viking Fest experience, and this opportunity ensures members can fully participate in the celebration of their accomplishments.
• Continued support to ensure Viking Fest remains a meaningful and engaging experience for students, allowing them to fully participate in campus traditions.
• Opportunities for alumni and community members to return to campus, celebrate, and fellowship with the ECSU community.
• The inclusion and presence of Greek organizations on the plot during Viking Fest, recognizing their important role in campus culture, leadership, and unity.
• Consideration of flexible event hours during Viking Fest, so students can fully engage in scheduled activities. 
• Accommodations that support both students and guests in enjoying events responsibly while maintaining a positive campus environment.
• An enhanced and visible security presence during Viking Fest to support a safe and structured environment, allowing everyone to celebrate with confidence and peace of mind.

Our intent is to uplift and preserve the traditions that make ECSU special while ensuring Viking Fest continues to be a safe, inclusive, and memorable experience for students, alumni, Greek organizations, and the broader community.
