Secure Today, Stable Tomorrow

The Issue

Empowering Change to Temporary Accommodation across Denbighshire

Approximately 40% of the people we see coming through our food bank are living in temporary accommodation. Their cooking facilities and access to the internet and laundry are inconsistent causing extra expenses than are necessary. This creates feelings of abandonment and hopelessness and furthers their struggles with employment and increases chances of substance abuse.

We are campaigning for everyone placed in temporary accommodation in our area to be provided with the same, essential facilities as standard including at least a kettle and microwave, Wi-Fi and access to laundry facilities. This will in turn equally empower everyone in temporary accommodation to be able to tackle their current situation and transfer to permanent housing.

Our Asks to Denbighshire County Council:

  • For everyone in temporary accommodation to at least be provided with a kettle and microwave and access to Wi-Fi and laundry facilities.
  • The local authority committing to a standard level of care all temporary accommodations must provide in order to be contracted.

The Impact this will have:

  • Everyone in temporary accommodation will be equally empowered to tackle their current situation and transfer to permanent housing.
  • Those in temporary accommodation have to spend less to have their basic   needs met and so access food banks less.

You can help us make change by signing our petition and building pressure on Denbighshire County Council.
