Secure federal funding for childcare scholarships

Secure federal funding for childcare scholarships
The Issue
Affordable childcare is not a luxury - it is a necessity for working families and a foundation for a stable economy. Yet, families across South Carolina are being left without the support that many depend on, creating an urgent need for action.
When my family reached out to Governor McMaster's office, the response we received was clear and disheartening: "We do not anticipate reopening the childcare scholarship application process anytime soon." This is the reality for countless families in South Carolina, our own included.
Across the state, children and families are grappling with the impact of suspended childcare scholarship assistance, which has been halted since December 1, 2025. Without these crucial subsidies, low- and middle-income families are struggling to afford childcare. The lack of financial aid is forcing many parents to make difficult choices, such as leaving the workforce or sacrificing essential needs to afford basic childcare.
This is more than just an issue of inconvenience—it is a matter of survival for families who depend on these scholarships to maintain their livelihoods and secure their children’s well-being. The economic ripple effect of inaccessible childcare is substantial, not only affecting household incomes but also impacting local economies across South Carolina and the United States.
The COVID-19 pandemic has already placed immense pressure on family budgets, and the cessation of scholarship applications is pushing many to the brink. An investment in childcare is an investment in the future. Therefore, it is vital to secure sustained federal funding to support childcare scholarships, vital subsidies that make childcare affordable and accessible for all families.
Action is required at the federal level to ensure these scholarships are reinstated. By doing so, we can support families in continuing to work, sustain economic growth, and most importantly, provide a secure and nurturing environment for our children. We call upon our lawmakers to prioritize children’s futures and provide the necessary funding to reinstate Childcare scholarship programs.
Support this cause and urge our leaders for change. Sign this petition to help secure the federal funding needed for childcare scholarships across South Carolina and the entire United States.
