Secure commitment to keep Limestone Coast beaches clean
The issue
I want a commitment from Local Government and industry to employ Coast Marine Plastic Limestone Coast to clean Limestone Coast beaches 5 days a week for 6 months each year and raise awareness of the state our coastline caused by plastics.
My aim is to raise awareness of the state our Limestone Coast coastline and to educate the community, businesses, local government and industry to the need of a regular removal and disposal of rubbish on SA beaches. At the very least, what is required is a commitment to cleaning beaches 5 days a week for 6 months each year.
Having lived and breathed the coast my entire life, I've been fortunate enough to forge my career from the ocean as a crewman in the fishing industry. The sea has been my livelihood, and its beauty never ceases to amaze me. However, as the years have gone by, I've witnessed with growing concern the alarming state of pollution that is tarnishing our exquisite coastline.
Limestone Coast is a treasured asset of South Australia, attracting both locals and tourists with its stunning beaches and unique ecosystems. Sadly, our shores are becoming increasingly overrun with plastic waste and general debris, a situation that significantly threatens marine life and diminishes the natural allure of our beaches. The consequences of inaction are dire, leading to not only a spoiled natural environment but also potential impacts on tourism and local industries that depend on the ocean.
This petition calls for a 2-year commitment from both local government and industry to support Coast Marine Plastic Limestone Coast in their mission to clean our beaches five days a week for six months annually. Such a measure is the bare minimum required to mitigate the escalating problem of plastic waste along our shores.
We must work hand in hand to foster sustainable practices within our communities. By raising awareness and understanding of our coastline's fragile state, we can mobilize public action and inspire both local government and businesses to prioritize environmental stewardship. Reduction of litter and enhanced public awareness are crucial aspects of this initiative.
The time is now to act decisively to prevent further degradation of our coastal beauty. Let us unite in this endeavor to ensure that our stunning Limestone Coast remains pristine for future generations, benefiting the environment and all those who depend on it.
Sign this petition and join me in urging our leaders to commit to an ongoing initiative that will safeguard the integrity of our ‘clean and green’ Limestone Coast for years to come.
