Secure a permanent home for dance companies and social dance communities in Toronto
Secure a permanent home for dance companies and social dance communities in Toronto
Why this petition matters

Toronto needs a permanent, dedicated, wheelchair accessible centre for dance that is safe from changing management, ownership or development. Thousands of Torontonians have been negatively affected by the changing use of space that happened recently at Dovercourt House, a unique four story building that housed three dance production companies (Corpus, Princess Productions and Kaeja d’Dance) and multiple social dance communities including Salsa, Waltz, Swing, Contact Improvisation, Ecstatic dance, Tango etc.
The loss of using this building recently has devastated the dance community in Toronto. As a past renter at Dovercourt House I know first-hand how important it is to the community to have a secure, permanent space that is available every day of the year to dance, make connections, self-express, exercise, decompress from stress and experience community.
We the undersigned believe that the city of Toronto needs a permanent, dedicated, wheelchair accessible space for dance. Without one, thousands of people will be negatively affected both in their livelihoods as dance production company owners and in their mental, physical and spiritual well-being as social dancers.
