The Issue
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg MUST Stop the 90 Freeway Tear Down!
The proposed 90 freeway tear down has raised significant concerns among Los Angeles County District 2 residents of Ladera Heights, Marina del Rey, Windsor Hills, Culver City and Westchester regarding its potential consequences. While we understand the need for infrastructure improvements and urban development, it is crucial that these decisions are made with careful consideration for those who will be most affected by them. Our input should be valued and taken into account BEFORE any federal funds are granted by Pete Buttigieg, Secretary U.S. Department of Transportation, for the proposed feasibility study justifying the demolition of the the CA 90 freeway. The decision to tear down the CA 90 freeway should not be in the hands of California State Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas and California Assemblymember Issac Bryan. Senator Smallwood-Cuevas believes the 90 Freeway is a freeway to nowhere.
I'm calling U.S. Department of Secretary Pete Buttigieg to follow the leadership of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and REJECT federal funding for the $2million dollar federal grant application submitted by Streets For All founder Michael Schneider, who wants to demolish the CA 90 freeway. Mr. Schneider, CA State Senator Smallwood-Cuevas, Assemblymember Bryan FAILED to gather input from community members – those who will bear the brunt of this decision. This lack of consideration for our voices is unacceptable! It's time for ALL political officials to STOP the 90 Freeway Tear Down!
As a 31 year resident of Ladera Heights, I am deeply concerned about the proposed 90 Freeway tear down that will directly impact our community. Ladera Heights is not just any neighborhood; it holds the distinction of being the 3rd most affluent African American community in the nation. Our community has worked hard to create a safe and prosperous environment for our families, and we believe that our voices should be heard when decisions are made that will affect us directly. It is crucial that Ladera Heights, Marina del Rey, Windsor Hills, Culver City, Westchester, Playa Vista, Play del Rey and Inglewod residents have a say in this decision-making process, as it directly affects our daily lives and well-being.
As tax-paying citizens, our input is necessary BEFORE any decision is made to tear down the CA 90 freeway as it will disrupt our daily lives - from commuting times and traffic congestion to access to essential services and the quality of life of thousands of constituents who use the freeway every day. Traffic congestion is already a major issue in Los Angeles County, and tearing down the 90 Freeway without proper planning could exacerbate this problem significantly.
To ensure that Ladera Heights, Marina del Rey, Windsor Hills, Culver City and Westchester residents are heard and considered throughout this process, we respectfully demand that U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California State Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas and California Assemblymember Issac Bryan rescind their support for the $2million dollar feasibility study grant submitted to the U.S. Department of Transportation by Michael Schneider's Streets For All organization. Our community deserves a pre-grant award opportunity to express concerns, ask questions, propose alternatives and ultimately shape decisions that will have long-lasting consequences for all Los Angles County and City residents. We insist on transparency and meaningful public participation BEFORE Pete Buttigieg, Secretary U.S. Department of Transportation, makes his decision.
Sign this petition today if you believe it is essential for U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas and California Assemblymember Issac Bryan to RESCIND their support to tear down the CA 90 Freeway. A $2million dollar study to demolish the CA 90 freeway is strongly opposed by Los Angeles County and City residents and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. If awarded by Secretary Buttigieg, this will be a complete waste of $2 million dollars of federal funds.
Let us ensure that decisions affecting our community are made with transparency and accountability. Mayor Karen Bass heard us loud and clear. Now it's time for U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to hear us, support us and STOP the 90 Freeway Tear Down!
Thanks for your support.
