Updated Petition for Clemency for Leon Stanton Petition for Clemency for Leon Stanton Clemency Number: C320781 Registration Number: 61918-066 To: Alice Johnson, Pardon Czar, and President Donald Trump Dear Ms. Johnson and President Trump, My name is Britt Stanton, and I am writing with a heartfelt plea for clemency on behalf of my husband, Leon Stanton, who is currently serving an excessive 35-year sentence for a non-violent drug offense. With 16 years already served, I believe it is time to grant him a second chance and an opportunity for redemption. Leon was sentenced to 420 months for possession of only 22.8 grams of crack cocaine. He was never caught selling drugs; his offense was strictly limited to personal possession. The punishment he faces is grossly disproportionate to the nature of his crime, especially since there were no control buys involved in his case. If he had been sentenced under today’s laws, he would have received less than half of the time he was originally sentenced to. The Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 changed the laws regarding crack cocaine sentencing, reducing the disparity between crack and powder cocaine offenses; however, these changes were not made retroactive. As a result, individuals like Leon, who were sentenced under the previous laws, remain subject to excessively harsh sentences. He will be pursuing a compassionate release based on these significant changes in the law and the grossly disproportionate nature of his current sentence. Throughout his time in prison, Leon has continued to show consistent dedication to growth, accountability, and rehabilitation. He has completed over 40 programs and has recently completed the Challenge Program. He is currently at FCI Lewisburg, waiting for transfer to his new location. Leon is nearly finished with the Blackstone Career Paralegal Program, where he has maintained an A average. He plans to continue with advanced courses after completing the program. Additionally, he still has medical issues that have not been adequately addressed. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to doing as much programming as possible, improving himself, and preparing to get a job while he waits for a clemency decision. Leon is not just a prisoner; he is a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who longs to reunite with his family and contribute positively to society. He has the potential to be a valuable asset to the community, and he deserves the opportunity to rebuild his life and support his loved ones. I respectfully urge you to consider Leon Stanton’s case for clemency. Granting him this chance would not only help correct a deeply unjust sentence but also reflect compassion and the belief that people can change and deserve redemption.
