Ban Dark Pools

The Issue

Dark Pools rely on a lack of transparency when it comes to shares bought, sold, and how those actions affect the stock price itself. Dark pools were first made under the pretense of needing to buy/sell in big quantities without drastically affecting the price per share. However, due to the nature of this feature it can be abused quite easily and has gotten out of hand to say the least. Big corporations and hedge funds, for example, can buy tens of thousands of shares if not hundreds then proceed to sell those same shares on the real market in order to drop/negatively affect the price. Dark Pool trades tend to take up 30% of a stock’s volume but as of recent we’ve been seeing upwards of 70%-90% on certain stocks. This should be illegal, and thus, should the entirety of Dark Pool trading. The stock market thrives off information, accurate price action, and transparency. Dark pool trading removes all of those factors and gives an edge to traders with more capital, and thus the ability to manipulate price action anonymously at an artificial rate. Through Dark Pool trading the stock price is anonymously and artificially diluted/misrepresented, and so it should no longer remain as a feature when trading on the stock market. If you believe in a world where everyone has a shot, that everyone has the right to know what the TRUE price of a stock is and then make an informed decision based on such and other related variables, please vote. Our voices will only be heard when we speak as one.
