Sea Turtles don’t need a straw to drink and neither do you.

The Issue

Not only can straws get stuck in a Sea Turtles nostril but when they start to break down, small pieces of straws begin floating in the ocean. In the eyes of the Sea Turtles, these small pieces then are seen as food, making them think they are eating when in reality they are not. Due to this, they feel as if they have eaten enough and will no longer eat causing them to die from starvation. We can help prevent this just by simply using reusable straws instead of plastic. I would like to start by banning all plastic straws on Anna Maria Island. Having less plastic straws can be the start to having less plastic waste in our Oceans and helping our sea life.
