Scrap the New Bus Gates - Keep Aberdeen Accessible

Scrap the New Bus Gates - Keep Aberdeen Accessible
The Issue
Keep Aberdeen Open - Scrap the New Bus Gates
This month Aberdeen City Council introduced new bus gates in the city centre.
They have been widely criticised by many and will only damage the prospects of the city centre’s regeneration.
The new bus gates are restricting access to the city, making what should be a simple journey into the city centre, confusing and disruptive for drivers. Their introduction will contribute to further city centre decline as locals and visitors alike simply won’t bother with the hassle of trying to travel into town due to the gates.
The shops, cafes, restaurants, entertainment venues alongside other businesses in Aberdeen have faced enough challenges over the past few years. More restrictions that will likely reduce footfall does them no favours at an already difficult time.
Worse of all, disabled people in the city are worst affected as no blue badge exemption has been put in place. This makes much of the city centre and its amenities sadly off limits for people who need and deserve access.
There isn’t time for the trail period to end before the damaging impact of the new bus gates kick in and no guarantee that the co-leaders will listen.
It’s time Ian Yuill and Christian Allard’s Aberdeen City Council Administration of Chaos Scraps the Bus Gate.
