Scrap the Ineffective ULEZ and Implement a Total "Zero-Oil" Policy for London

Scrap the Ineffective ULEZ and Implement a Total "Zero-Oil" Policy for London
The Issue
The Problem:
In my opinion, the current Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) does not prevent pollution. It is a flawed system that allows vehicles to continue emitting harmful materials into our air as long as the driver pays a fee. It treats clean air as a luxury for those who can afford it, rather than a right for everyone.
A daily charge does nothing to physically stop toxic particles from entering the lungs of Londoners. We need a policy that actually removes the source of the damage, rather than one that simply generates revenue.
The Proposal:
I am calling on the Mayor and the GLA to scrap ULEZ entirely and replace it with a "No Oil-Based Cars" mandate. This policy is designed to stop pollution at the source while providing the financial support necessary for Londoners to adapt. The "Zero-Oil" Action Plan:
Proposals:
1. A Total Ban on Oil-Based Vehicles: Move beyond "standards" and "charges." We propose a future-dated policy where petrol and diesel cars-the primary sources of harmful tailpipe materials-are no longer permitted on London's roads.
2. Enforcement via Fines, Not Fees: Driving a polluting vehicle should not be something you can "buy" your way out of. Non-compliance will result in a strict penalty fine, ensuring the policy actually removes pollution from our streets.
3. Direct GLA Funding for Second-Hand EVs: The GLA must take responsibility for the transition. Instead of small scrappage grants, the GLA should establish a massive fund to subsidize the purchase of second-hand electric cars. This ensures that even the lowest-income Londoners can switch to a clean vehicle without financial ruin.
Why This Matters
ULEZ is a half-measure that fails to proending the use of oil-based engines and directly funding the second-hand electric car market, we can finally stop the release of harmful materials into our environment. It is time for a policy that prioritizes clean air and fairness over daily charges.
Sign this petition to demand that Sadiq Khan scraps ULEZ in favor of a real, funded solution for a Zero-Oil London.
