The Govt. of  India has amended their rules on GST and effectively reduced the load to the people affected. But if you have noticed, the change in the rule has not given  relief to all universally.

While it has given the benefit to all including the 60+ among the individuals, many have been left in the lurch. Our fight  was primarily to relieve the 60+ population of  the load of the GST, which should be collected primarily from the income earning bracket, not the seniors who depend on doles beyond their prime earning period.

The Government of India’s decision to exempt individual health insurance premiums from GST is a historic step toward financial security for our citizens. However, this relief remains incomplete because it is not yet universal. While individual policies for seniors (aged 60+) are now GST-free, many retirees who are part of group health insurance arrangements—such as those managed by pensioner associations—are still burdened by an 18% GST load.

Unlike corporate group policies funded by employers, these retiree group schemes are often 'self-funded' by the individuals themselves. In such cases, the group serves only as a collective umbrella for administrative ease, yet the financial load falls entirely on the seniors. It is unjust to tax these individuals simply because they choose to secure their health through a collective identity.

My appeal to the Government to deem any group policy where the premium cost is borne individually by its members as an 'individual policy' for GST purposes. Senior citizens, who have already contributed their life's work to the nation, should not be taxed on essential health security during their non-earning years. We request that the GST Council extend this exemption to all health insurance covers where the individual is the ultimate payer, ensuring deference and dignity for our senior population.

My next attempt is to appeal that group policies where the the premium cost is borne by the individuals covered in the group should be deemed as individual policies and add to GST should not be charged to those individuals.

Ideally this should be extended to the entire lot of individuals. Any rate, this benefit cannot be denied to the senior citizens who are aged 60+, who have contributed their mite while they were earning.

Past their productive period, they have to be treated differently and with deference, with no GST for the essential group health insurance covers as well, unlike the regular income earning generation.

Do lend me your hands, please.
