Wheelchair Safety In Victoria, BCCanada
12.06.2024

I'm working hard on this project. Last week I had a very frank, open and honest conversation with a very savvy Island Health Manager. This person won't be identified.

The CSIL program was implemented to give  applicants freedom from the restraints of  basic home care. Ken Kramer is the man who worked for 20 years trying to change the home care model for PWD, and in 1993 the BC Ministry of Health listened to him and finally established the CSIL program, which has had over 1,000 participants since its inception in 1993.

Once again, the process of applying for and running the CSIL program is onerous and simply does not reflect a disabled individuals abilities to own and operate a small business, which is a CSIL requirement. Many PWD are missing out due to an extremely difficult and antiquated CSIL process.

Now, in 2024, the Ministry of Health  and the BC Government in general, has the ability to allow service providers to direct bill, such as  ICBC...they allow private home care providers to direct bill for the home care services provided to injured motorists.

This is my crusade, yes. However, we are all aging and will require home care at some point in our lives. Wouldn't it be nice to NOT have to become an employer just to have your say in home care? Take my word...the work I'm doing to change a bit of the system of home care in BC will work for you too when you need it.

Kindest Regards,

Brian LePas
