Scrap Race-Based Policing: Restore Colour-Blind Justice and Equal Protection for All
The Issue
We, the British public, demand the immediate review, reform - & ultimate scrapping - of the Police Race Action Plans (including the national NPCC framework & local versions such as Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s race action plan) & the associated “Anti-Racism Commitment”.
These policies explicitly state that racial “equity” does NOT mean treating everyone the same or being “colour blind”. They push forces to ALWAYS consider race FIRST in outcomes, training & responses - including concepts like white privilege, unconscious bias - & prioritising certain ‘community narratives’.
The tragic death of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton has EXPOSED the human cost. A dying teenager repeatedly told officers he had been stabbed & could not breathe. Instead of immediate first aid, he was initially handcuffed based on his killer’s false racism claim.
Hampshire Constabulary also came dangerously close to issuing a public statement that would have portrayed 18-year-old Henry Nowak as the white, racist aggressor in the moments before his death. Sources indicate senior officers were preparing a narrative that actually leaned in heavily on the killer’s false racism claims, only pulling back after being advised against it by the CPS.
Henry’s killer was also NEVER handcuffed - neither at the scene, during transport, nor at the police station - despite openly possessing a 21cm kirpan blade & even after Henry had passed from the fatal stabbing.
Even after Henry’s death, the suspect was afforded significant leniency. Officers reportedly allowed him access to the station canteen, where he was permitted to select his own food, apparently to accommodate cultural or dietary requirements & ensure his comfort as a minority. This stark contrast in treatment - with a dying white teenager placed in handcuffs while the armed suspect received considerate handling - has raised serious questions about consistency, impartiality & the influence of race & cultural awareness policies on operational decisions.
This NEW & INSTILLED instinct to protect “delicate race relations” and avoid inflaming “community tensions” would have been unthinkable without the backdrop of the force’s Race Action Plan & the broader national push for anti-racist policing that explicitly rejects colour-blind responses. Instead of immediately centring a dying teenager’s clear medical distress, the institutional reflex was to manage the racial narrative first. That instinct speaks volumes about how these policies distort priorities & erode basic trust.
Hampshire Constabulary Leadership - specifically deputy chief Constance Robert France - also then publicly claimed officers began life-saving aid within “THREE minutes” - evidence from transcripts & footage suggests around EIGHT minutes, with officers allegedly continuing chest compressions on a chest stab wound.
IMPORTANT questions must now be asked about how race-aware training & ANTI-WHITE precedent contributed to hesitation or ‘skewed priorities’.
This is NOT equal justice at all. In a democracy, the law must protect everyone equally, regardless of race, background, or identity.
Policies that encourage treating people differently based on skin colour or perceived group grievances undermine public trust, endanger lives & fuel division. They are INCOMPATIBLE with the principle that British policing should be impartial & evidence-based.
We call on the Home Secretary, National Police Chiefs’ Council, College of Policing & ALL Police & Crime Commissioners to:
- Immediately suspend race equity targets & “not colour blind” guidance.
- Commission an independent review of how these policies affect emergency response, arrest decisions - & public confidence.
- Restore colour-blind policing: every victim & suspect treated according to the facts, not identity.
- Release full bodycam footage & transcripts from the Nowak case & commit to FULL accountability.
Henry Nowak was a young British/Polish WHITE student with his whole life ahead of him.
His death MUST NOT be in vain.
No white child should EVER face delayed help because officers are navigating racial narratives.
Equal justice is not a right-wing or left-wing issue. It is a British value.
