This alarming trend is deeply personal to me, as witnessing cases like that of Shabir Ahmed, who was released early, highlights the loopholes in our justice system. Even more distressing, PC Andrew Harper's killers are due for early release at the end of this year. This is not just a personal grievance but a societal issue that demands immediate attention.

The early release scheme, originally intended to ease prison overpopulation and aid rehabilitation, has taken a turn for the worse by applying to serious offenders—those who have committed violent and heinous crimes. It is imperative that this scheme is reserved solely for minor crimes. The justice system's primary role is to ensure public safety, and by allowing serious offenders back into our communities prematurely, we jeopardize this safety.

For instance, data from reputable sources indicate a significant percentage increase in reoffending rates among early-released convicts of serious crimes.
