Mise à jour sur la pétitionTo The Scottish Government - Stop The Sale of Loch LomondSTATEMENT: This is not a party political issue - this is a national issue

It is becoming clear many people think this petition is aimed at the SNP Government, let me be perfectly clear on this: it is not aimed at any party, or movement, or on behalf of any party, or movement. This is an apolitical campaign, a single issue petition. The reason it is directed to the Scottish Government is because they are the government of Scotland and it is one of the government's quangos that has autonomy over this issue.
This campaign welcomes all, regardless of political party, affiliation, leaning or membership. So long as they are minded that this issue of the sale of Loch Lomond's southern lands is about the issue, that their own politics have nothing to do with their support.
I have been speaking to people of all political colours, some bitterly opposed to each other to a remarkable degree. I will always speak to people who feel this issue transcends their politics. To this end I will be inviting all of Loch Lomond's political representatives at every level, local councils, MSPs, MPs, MEPs to come together to discuss openly this issue and this issue alone. I hope to do this before the planning application in principle submission takes its course in February.
To use this, on any side, as a party political point scoring platform, is in my mind reprehensible, and threatens us all who care about Loch Lomond, as sides will be taken along party lines that then extinguishes conscience and reason.
No matter which political angle you take, that angle has no bearing on this campaign, and political point scoring has no traction in this campaign and will not be tolerated, indeed, it will be called out regardless of political party or affiliation.
This issue is a national issue. It is a fundamental issue of principle. Of good governance, of statutes, of land ownership, of the commonweal. To use it for other means is to demean it, and to take away the heartfelt wishes of the people to protect and honour our land and heritage.
I ask all who are reading this to think on this, and I ask all political representatives to lay aside their party concerns and their rivalries with others, and begin treating this issue with the respect Loch Lomond, the environment, future generations, and the people of Scotland deserve.
