Today in the Times, I read an article regarding historical child abuse which took place over decades at Celtic Boys Club.

I believe that several individuals associated with both the boys club and Celtic FC were convicted of such abuse.

The article uncovers strong evidence of a cover up by high ranking individuals at Celtic. My understanding is that their failure to involve the Police or to properly investigate the matter, led to the continuation of  boys being abused.

I understand that one individual, after having left the club following abuse of boys, was permitted to return and subsequently went on to abuse other kids.

There is an extremely strong suggestion that authorities may not be over keen to bring about an early public enquiry to the circumstances of these events due to the perceived potential to offend one teams football supporters and the possibility of losing votes.

I am a parent, a one time kids sports coach and I am soon to be a grandparent. I believe that the protection of children must be paramount and that the potential embarrassment of a football club, its fans, or any political party should not stand in the way of transparency and justice.
