Protect Kylerhea & Glenelg: STOP super pylons damaging landscapes, wildlife & communities.
The Issue
We need your help to stop Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks running huge super pylons up Glen Arroch, one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland, and through ancient crofting communities.
If this catastrophic plan goes ahead it will carve up unspoilt landscapes, threaten water supplies and put rare wildlife at risk.
It will also have a devastating impact on people and livelihoods in Kylerhea, Glenelg and Kyleakin, as the community-run ferry, which is a local and tourist lifeline, will be at risk.
Construction work for the new route will rip through fragile ecosystems, virgin peatland and special areas of conservation. Eight miles of pylons, tracks and power lines will run from the ferry point at Kylerhea, through the township and along the historic drove road up to the A87.
This proposal, known as Route 3B, shouldn’t even be on the table. SSEN admits that existing lines could be upgraded instead.
We’re calling on the Scottish government to veto this destructive plan and site the replacement power lines along route 3A, which already runs up the southeast of Skye.
Ministers will decide on the proposals in the coming months. As local communities, we urgently need your help to make our voices heard above business and political interests far away from real life here in Skye and Glenelg.
We only have one chance to save this pristine corner of Scotland. Will you help? Please sign and share our petition – the more signatures, the louder our voice will be.
