STOP SHENHUA MINING KOALA HABITAT ON GOMEROI ANCESTRAL LANDS

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

The Shenhua Watermark Mine is a massive thermal and coking coal mine approved for the Liverpool Plains, near Breeza in north-western New South Wales.
In 2016 the Hon. MP Greg Hunt approved Shenhua coalmine, despite the fact that the proposed mega-mine is situated on Gomeroi's ancestral lands which are sacred and hold great significance to the traditional owners.

This deal also fails the 262 koalas who will be 're-homed' to have their habitat's destroyed for a mine.

After the devastation that's come from the Bush fires in Australia and the massive wildlife losses we've faced, including 350 koalas in NSW and QLD with numbers unfortunately expected to rise as fires continue to burn up their homes, Prioritizing the protection of Australia's Koalas and the Koala species that are facing extinction is urgent.

$262,000,000 OF TAX PAYERS DOLLARS WAS AWARDED TO SHENHUA BY THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT
Putting Tax Paying money into the pockets of a company ready to willingly destroy a Koala Habitat is not a priority and we, the people of Australia, condemn these actions.

We, the people of Australia, urge you, members of the Australian Parliament to cancel Shenhua's mining license instead of buying into it. Spend that $262,000,000 on bush regeneration and rehabilitation for wildlife that have been affected by the fires. Spend the money on animals like the Koalas whose habitats will be destroyed if you continue to support this deal.

"EDO client Lock the Gate made a FOI request for documents, arguing the public has a right to know about how public money was spent in relation to the Shenhua Watermark mine. It came after the NSW Government struck a deal with the Chinese state-owned Shenhua to buy back around 50% of its mining licence at a cost of $262 million to tax payers"

"The site of Shenhua’s proposed mega-mine is located on the Gomeroi’s ancestral lands. The area includes irreplaceable Aboriginal cultural heritage such as large grinding groove sites, scarred trees and interlinked ceremonial corridors and sacred sites. The Shenhua Watermark’s pits would destroy these places forever."
