The entire Australia Post inquiry comes down to the eight minutes of testimony in this video. Neither the Morrison government nor Board had the authority to force Christine Holgate to stand aside, and she repeatedly refused, knowing it would be the end of her job for doing nothing wrong. At 5.50pm on the evening of 22 October the Chair claimed she had suddenly agreed to stand aside in a personal call with him that nobody else heard; however, Christine Holgate insists she didn't even speak to him. The person she did speak to, many times, was director Tony Nutt, the real powerbroker on the AusPost board, a fixer who was trying to manage the situation. Senator Pauline Hanson's persistent questioning gets Nutt to admit the truth that Christine Holgate never told him she agreed to stand aside, even though she emailed and spoke to him AFTER the Chair claimed she had agreed. But will the Chair be held to account? The Chair's lie on that day proved to Christine Holgate that the government and Board wanted her gone, which was the biggest factor in the bullying that led her to offer her resignation 10 days later.
Next week Parliament sits for three days. While the MPs are all together, call your local Member and Senators and demand they reinstate Christine Holgate. And please share this update as widely as possible.
