This petition is now ending as Christine Holgate has accepted a new job at Toll Global Express. This is an understandable decision by Christine, but it is a loss for the people of Australia. She spent three years in public service for Australia, bringing her considerable talents to running Australia Post, not the way the government wanted her to, but the way Australians would have wanted her to. While the government intended to downsize services and fully or partially privatise Australia Post, Christine Holgate determined to protect the essential services Australia Post provides by growing the business, including through expanding financial services. She even considered turning Australia Post into a public bank. She saved regional banking services through a brilliant deal with the banks that nobody thought she could achieve, and then made sure that the proceeds from the deal were shared with the longsuffering small business families who run the 2,850 licensed post offices, making them viable for the first time after years of teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. She did an amazing job for the people of Australia, but was forced out by the corrupt intrigues of the major parties.
The campaign to reinstate Christine Holgate achieved the Senate inquiry and stunning public hearings in which she was able to reveal the truth, but in response Morrison and his ministers and the political hacks and bureaucrats running Australia Post doubled down on their lies, and appointed a new CEO to show utter contempt for the process. Now, with the government more interested in protecting the PM than getting to the truth, Christine Holgate has decided to move on. All Australians should be very angry at the government for driving out “the best CEO Australia Post has ever had”. It’s up to the Australian people to demand accountability. Call your MP to deliver the message:
- You blew it with Christine Holgate—if you cared about good government you would never have let her go.
- You must sack the entire board of political hacks who threw her under a bus to please Scott Morrison and lied to protect him, and install a new board which includes one representative each from the licensed post offices and staff.
- Parliament must create an Australia Post “people’s bank”, to guarantee banking services to all Australians and to break the monopoly of the Big Four banks.
