In the face of our worst recorded bushfire season to date, the Australian public has banded together and shown incredible generosity to our fellow peoples. We have witnessed huge sums donated for our fire services, volunteer fire fighters, wildlife rescue groups, relief centers, and more. Trucks full of supplies driven into affected area’s off the backs of everyday Australians, strangers opening their homes to those who have no-where else to go. It is truly awe-inspiring to witness, but this fire season is not yet even half way through and it should not be the obligation of the Australian public to fund our emergency service crews and resource the volunteer efforts.

Our firies are desperate for water, food, gear, equipment and, of course, rest Whilst this has already been a challenging season, it is still far from over, and our people on the front lines will need all the resources that can be supplied to them. Our Prime Minister has the power to declare a National Emergency, suspend parliament and provide what is needed in this crisis. This is a call to action for our Federal Government and our Prime Minister; sign and request that the government step up and support the fire-fighters magnificent heroic labours. We request that the Australian Federal Government take immediate action and urgently implement the following measures:

• Declare a National Emergency in response to the current bushfires and prepare for the rest of the fire season
• Assist ALL fire fighters, volunteers and crews further with their fight by supplying the required resources (water, food, vehicles, man power, gear, equipment, etc)
• Assist with further preventative measures as we continue to face this national emergency together
• Purchase and/or lease more water bombing planes
• Provide urgent assistance for those who have already lost so much, by such actions as funding emergency support payments through Centrelink
• Create a clear plan and policy for the management of the environment and bushfire risks in Australia’s changing climate
