KEEP THE TREES BREATHING: Stop supporting companies that contribute to deforestation
The issue
We don’t want the government to do something, we NEED the government to do something before it is too late. We need the government to stop giving contracts to companies that engage in clear-cutting so all our trees aren’t being killed at such an alarming rate. Sign this petition to LET US BE HEARD. Once you’ve signed this petition, reconsider buying from unsustainable brands by being aware and doing your research.
We want YOU to help us keep our beautiful, natural, forest alive and breathing. Two mature trees can provide enough oxygen for a family of four. Unknowingly, you may have bought from or supported a company that contributes to deforestation in Australia. Trees and other plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen back into the air in the process of photosynthesis. That’s why forests are referred to as the “planet’s lungs.” #OneTreeOneLife
This might not affect you now, but it will if we don't act now. Lack of trees can potentially lead to an increase in the spread of life-threatening diseases such as: the loss of forest, this can act as an incubator for insect-borne and other infectious diseases that afflict humans, climate change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, and a loss of indigenous native species.
Norway is the first country in the world to commit to no longer using any products that contribute to deforestation. Norwegians refuse to give government contracts to companies that engage in clear-cutting and we should learn from this as our government needs to do the same.
In just Australia, 55 wildlife species and 37 plant species have gone extinct. 1,250 plant and 390 animal species are currently listed as endangered in Australia, and out of those numbers, 964 plants and 286 animals have deforestation to blame. Not to mention that the much loved Australia mammals, koalas are currently endangered due to habitat loss caused by deforestation. Deforestation is a major problem in Australia, 50% of the trees have been DESTROYED since the European settlement and this won’t reduce anytime soon if we don’t do anything.
