Increase Housing for the Homeless in Australia

Increase Housing for the Homeless in Australia
Why this petition matters

We life in a society that cares about those less fortunate than ourselves, since the 1980's it has been stated by politicians that they will eradicate poverty in Australia, homelessness has been steadily growing and at the last census was over 116,000 of the population. I feel this has been going on for too long and we need to do something about it as a Nation. Would you like to live one day at a time not knowing what is coming next?
Under the current economic climate I ask Governments to look at spending money on building many tens of thousands of homes, social housing and apartments, this will create many jobs, it will invest in the economy and it will give money to tradespeople to spend in the community, purchasing all the required equipment they need to perform their tasks. In turn this will have a snowball effect in needing more materials to be manufactured, more supplies through local stores. Also the prospect of Tiny homes could be looked at, but may need a change in local legislation.
Providing new homes and social housing to these members of our community will reduce the overall cost on the medical necessities such as drugs for depression, hospital visits, as well as visits to welfare agencies, giving agencies a much better opportunity to focus their expertise and money on the most critical needs instead of spreading them very thinly. Research has indicated that a saving of upto $18,000 per year per homeless person could be achieved with providing appropriate housing.
