Sunday 13 September 2020 marks two years since Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert was detained and unjustly imprisoned in Iran.
During that time her circumstances have continued to deteriorate.
Over the weekend of 25/26 July she was suddenly transferred to Qarchak prison in the desert outside Tehran, known as one of the worst women's prisons in the world.
Yet despite the hardships her spirit endures.
Recent news from inside the prison indicates that Kylie has been running during her brief periods of exercise, jogging laps of the small prison yard to keep up her physical and emotional strength, despite having only a pair of plastic, prison issue slippers to wear on her feet.
Fitness and exercise have always been important to Kylie, and to mark 2 years since her arrest friends, neighbours and supporters are coming together on Sunday 13 September in her home town of Bathurst, New South Wales, to Run With Kylie.
To mark this event, and to further highlight Dr Moore-Gilbert's plight, the FreeKylieMG campaign, the Facebook group "Free Kylie Moore-Gilbert" and myself at the Change.org petition are joining together to launch #WeRunWithKylie to encourage supporters to join with Kylie on her runs, at least in spirit.
We're asking supporters to run or walk, as far or for as long as they like, either on Sunday 13 September or any time afterwards.
Take a photo and post it to Twitter (@FreeKylieMG) Instagram (@FreeKylieMG) or Facebook (https://bit.ly3jQMtYU with the hashtag #WeRunWithKylie
If you're not on social media you can email your photo to FreeKylieMG@gmail.com and someone will post it for you.
This may seem like a small gesture, but any message of support we can send to Dr Moore-Gilbert, her family and friends at this stage of her incarceration is an important morale boost.
A statement today from Kylie's family says it all -
"This Sunday, 13 September, marks two years of unimaginable pain for our family. We love Kylie very much and we remain strong and far from losing hope. For those who also know and love Kylie, they will recognise her fortitude and strength. We know this strength remains with her throughout this ordeal."
