Australian citizen Jock Palfreeman has been incarcerated in Bulgaria since 2007 after coming to the aid of a Roma man under attack.

On the 20th September Jock was granted parole by a panel of Bulgarian judges, who commented on his exemplary behaviour record and his work advocating for prisoner rights and reform.

He is in possession of an Australian passport, but is being held illegally at the Busmantsi Detention Centre as the Prosecutor General attempts to reopen his case. The Bulgarian immigration department has refused the Australian Embassy’s requests for a meeting and there has been no official statement from them.

The Australian and international media is following this case closely, and Australia’s failure to intervene so far has been noted. The political climate in Bulgaria has placed Jock in grave danger, and he needs to be brought to Australia at once.

As the regular channels have now failed, we are calling on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to intervene directly to ensure Jock's safe and immediate passage home.
