Create a permanent Sirius XM Prince channel
The Issue
Prince Rogers Nelson was one of the most prolific, talented, game-changing, beloved musicians of the past 40 years. Admirers ranging from Miles Davis to Stevie Wonder to Mick Jagger and an army of grateful fans have acknowledged his genius and the indelible impact his music has had on the world. His artistry extended beyond simply performing music: he wrote, produced, arranged and expertly played dozens of instruments. He also created music for artists ranging from The Time to Celine Dion. When he died on April 21, 2016, Sirius XM radio launched a Prince tribute channel that featured both his own music and the music of others for whom he wrote and produced. The popularity of the channel inspired Sirius XM to extend it beyond its original announced end date of April 29. On May 14, the channel ended. We are petitioning Sirius XM President and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein to create a permanent Sirius XM Channel featuring the musical world of Prince. There is plenty of content to sustain the channel, as Prince released more than 35 albums of his own and wrote and produced hit songs for dozens of other artists. Sirius XM has permanent channels curated to honor artists like Frank Sinatra, the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, Ozzy Osbourne and BB King. Surely, Sirius XM can make room for Prince, an artist whose influence and catalog matches these musical greats.
