Help make sure we educate our sons before we protect our daughters.
The Issue
When I was 4-5 I was told when a boy hit me he liked me, When I was 6 I witnessed a boy being violent and the parents telling the girl to ignore him, When I was 8 I was already told to be careful of what I wear when I was 10 I learnt to put keys between my knuckles when I am walking alone When I was 11 I started hiding on public transport making sure I was hidden from danger When I was 12 I was told by a teacher that my shirt was too high and that I needed to cover up and now being 13 I've seen and heard boys making rape jokes without acknowledging how we girls may feel.
I believe if we start at a very young age we can try to teach younger kids about how to be respectful and shape them into kind human beings. If we don't change now we may never. Only 3 months ago I was on the MTR when this man lifted up my skirt and then touched me innapropreatly. I remember feeling terrified and trapped, I left the MTR on the next stop and he grabbed my arm the second I left the door . I, being aware of this topic screamed a name towards a random person acting as if i knew them and he let me go. I could have been in a very serious situation if not for learning and talking openly about this regularly. If I hadn't I might've been in big trouble. I cannot understand why it isn't already essential to learn about this but here I am sharing my story hoping this will make you see how unaware society can be and to make you understand that if we all try we can help make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else.
