Dear Friends,

Last night was the vote and the board voted 6 (no) and 1 (yes). We were disappointed with the outcome as well as the board's response and lack of commitment to addressing our ongoing concerns. Despite being challenged by THREE attorneys that the board's legal argument was flawed and misleading (to call the addition of Eid "unconstitutional" or "illegal"), they continued to claim their lawyer was an "expert in education law" and they trust his guidance. So they voted no. It was clear they were unwilling to find a common ground and make it work unlike the hundreds of other public schools across the nation that have already added Eid.

The district 14 Muslim community continues to experience Islamophobia and racism by our school board. This is a classic example of further marginalizing minorities instead of giving them access and equity. Our voices continue to be suppressed.

But friends, this is not the end! This just makes us louder and stronger! We will continue to power through and show our determination and resilience until Eid is approved.

If you would like to support us in this ongoing movement, please reach out to our District 14 Eid Collective Organizers.

Thank you!

In Unity,

District 14 Eid Collective
