Dear Friends,

Yesterday at the board meeting, 6 of the 7 board members came in with a predetermined decision to NOT add Eid to the calendar.

The majority of the board claimed that they would be breaking the law if the Eid holiday was granted. They ignored the fact that 22 local public school districts have already passed the holiday on their calendars - some with an even lesser Muslim student population than Hewletts.

The community was also not given adequate time to speak, as no prior notice was given to meet the time limitations set by a timer. It was interesting to note that no other school calendar meetings used timers before.

During the meeting, many board members tried to sway the opinion of other board members by saying if they supported Eid, they would be violating the US Constitution.

Despite this pushback, one of the board members was supportive of adding Eid and requested another calendar be created to show that change!

The vote takes place next week!

Please reach out to us if you would like to help further with this initiative. We can use your help!
