KEEP FINAL EXAMS OF NON-BOARD CLASSES ONLINE UNTIL COVID 19 IS NO LONGER A THREAT!
The Issue
The threat of covid19 is real. Hospitals are filling up and more and more people are getting sick. In a situation like this, Children can’t be expected to maintain sufficient social distancing to keep this virus from spreading in school. They are social creatures. Allowing them back to school could cause a new spike in cases. They could bring it back home, even if they are a-symptomatic and spread it to their parents, grandparents and other family members who are at higher risk. This would cause a huge problem considering the health and safety of students and their families. Some more pointers for the same are as follows:
- There's a new strain of covid emerging whose effects and treatments are extremely unclear.
- In times of such uncertainty, offline exams would be treated as a burden for all (especially when the children have to be picked and dropped by parents).Online exams are apt to handle this situation, and ensure learning as well as safety.
- No amount of precautions ensure 100% safety. It is also extremely difficult for kids to wear masks for almost 6 hours at a stretch.
- The school has not made it mandatory to get COVID tests done before appearing for the examinations.
- Only a 2 weeks time period has been given for thinking about the possible consequences of this decision, and precautions to be taken at an individual level to protect oneself, and to arrange a transport system as well.
-It doesn’t make sense to reopen schools right now when covid cases have increased in comparison to the initial lockdown statistics and the legitimacy of the vaccines available in India is still unclear. Therefore, schools are advised to wait a little longer. Considering that the vaccine rollout starts in February, other schools have also postponed exams or are conducting them online. - Now, both parents and kids are in a better position to give online examinations and more skilled to handle technology, while ensuring utmost discipline.
- If any mishap were to happen, the school may not take responsibility for the same. In addition, if someone needs immediate medical attention, they may not be able to appear for other examinations, which might result them in getting a bad grade, and will have an adverse effect on their physical as well as mental health.
It's our suggestion to consider that health is of utmost importance and should not be compromised at any cost. Be it of the students, the teacher, or their respective families.
