Schedule unified 5th-grade recess at NEST+m

Today, when speaking with our children who attend the acclaimed NEST+m School in New York City, we learned something quite troubling. Each 5th-grade class has been assigned different recess times, preventing them from experiencing the joy of playing and socializing as a whole grade. As parents and guardians, we understand the tremendous value of social connections and the positive impact they have on a child's development.
Recess is not merely a time for play but a critical element of school life that fosters friendships, collaboration, and social skills. It is during these unscripted moments that children learn to navigate social dynamics, develop empathy, and cultivate a sense of belonging. Currently, the fragmented recess schedule hinders these opportunities.
