Voters in Alameda County Were Clear

Alameda County voters elected Pamela Price as our District Attorney because we believe that we can reduce crime while treating residents fairly and holding police accountable. We value compassionate justice. We value police accountability. We know that compassionate justice and police accountability lead to lower crime rates and stronger, healthier communities.

Political opponents of Pamela Price believe that the only way to reduce crime is indiscriminate policing followed by harsh punishment. These folks are wrong, their sledgehammer crime-reduction tactics don't work, the voters didn't buy it, and they lost their race for District Attorney. Rather than accepting defeat, they are staging a recall. 

Taking the election back to the voters through an expensive recall campaign should be an absolute last ditch effort to alleviate egregious harm that could not have been foreseen by voters. This process should NEVER be used to continue a failed political campaign. But that’s where these folks are headed. 

This cynical effort interferes with the work we have asked Pamela Price to do by diverting her attention from prosecuting crime to holding onto her job. In the two months since she took office, Pamela Price has already made progress working through unresolved cases that have unjustly languished in the prosecutor’s office for decades. She has important work to do!

Countless thoughtful residents of Alameda County worked hard to elect a district attorney who would stand up for police accountability and honest, compassionate justice. The opponents of Pamela Price are setting out to steal this hard-fought victory. Let’s not let them get away with it!
