Say no to YouTube Tax !!
The Issue
The UK Government wants to extend the licence fee to now include streaming platforms such as YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. This proposal is unfair. Sign here to stop it.
In these challenging economic times, many of us have made conscious decisions to adapt our consumption habits in a bid to manage our finances better. Many people deliberately avoid live TV and opt for on-demand viewing options specifically to avoid fees that prop up networks they don't support.
That's exactly what I did, given that the cost of living is continuously rising and putting additional strain on our households. I felt security in knowing that my decision helped me save money where it counts.
However, the new Government proposal fundamentally contradicts the choices I - and many of us -- have deliberately made.
The logic behind imposing said fees on streaming services undermines this choice and feels like an unnecessary burden for households already stretched thin. More importantly, it does not reflect the media consumption habits of today's digital-first society.
As consumers, we should be given the freedom to pay for the services we use, not those we consciously choose to avoid.
A question needs to be asked of the Prime Minister, how is imposing this on those of us that made the decision to stop watching the BBC and live TV because of financial reasons giving us breathing space ? It is giving and taking back in the same breath.
It is crucial that we voice our stand against this proposal.
We must advocate for a fair system that reflects how citizens access and value content in the modern age. Please lend your voice to urge policymakers to abandon this proposal and push for a more equitable and consumer-friendly approach to media consumption.
